  • Yes, photons were released when the universe began to cool enough for electrons to combine with protons to make the first neutral hydrogen atoms. Those first photons are now observed as the Cosmic Microwave Background.

This article presents evidence that the cause of those primordial neutral hydrogen atoms having their electrons stripped away again was not primarily huge celestial formations like supermassive black holes or giant galaxies. Instead, it looks like the early universe produced such a large number of small galaxies that the light from stars in those small galaxies did the deed.

  • Looks like a versatile, modular platform.

The cargo bay looks like it can be swapped out with just a screwdriver.

The installed module on the right image seems to have slightly different geometry from the module installed in the left image.

The forward swept wing is not ideal for speed or maneuverability - they tend to twist and need heavy reinforcing, and that weight penalty typically isn’t a good tradeoff to make. However, it does push the center of lift forward to support a heavy payload in the nose.

This is a Bash fork bomb, a malicious function definition that recursively calls itself:

    :() — defines a function named : (yes, just a colon).

    { [:|:&] } — the function's body:

:|: — pipes the output of the function into another call of itself, creating two processes each time.

& — runs the call in the background, meaning it doesn’t wait for completion.

; — ends the function definition.

: — finally, this invokes the function once, starting the bomb.

  • The Senate Lunch System was flawed from the start. Its not a space program, its a political pork & white collar jobs make-work program.

The goals of those programs are laudable, but the mission profile was optimized for domestic politics rather than achieving the stated goals.

There are cheaper ways than a Lunar Gateway to accomplish building a fusion & rocket fuel refinery on the moon. Orion only makes sense in conjunction with a Lunar Gateway & SLS. SLS is disposable oldtech & a triumph of pork barrel politics over sound engineering.

  • Yeah, that’s the fast & easy way to do it, but you should cut the tops & stems off first, IMO. If the vinegar does not get into the peppers, they can grow fuzzy on the inside.

If you have access to a well ventilated* kitchen, you can make your own hot sauce that can be better than anything store bought. Remove the seeds** and then fry the shit out of the peppers until they start to pop and blacken, caramelizing the sugars. Then pour in a bit of water, just enough to almost cover the peppers, and when the water has evaporated the peppers will be mush. Throw the pepper mush into a blender with just enough salt & vinegar to suit your taste.

Sweet, mild peppers like red jalapenos make a good sauce with very little vinegar. I like to dilute the more intense peppers with extra vinegar until the sauce isn’t overpoweringly hot.

*seriously, don’t try this unless you’ve got a good exhaust fan or can do it outside

  • it will be relatively easy to replace the body panels on this truck

IDK, if they’re injection molded plastic then it kinda seems like the only way to get major damage repaired is to buy a replacement from Slate Auto. You can’t just visit the junkyard and start cutting material to weld on for patches.

Slate Auto will have a monopoly in addition to having a more expensive manufacturing process. Going with plastic panels means they need less capital to build the factory, but it also means the panels will take longer to produce. Stamping sheet metal can be done fast and cheap, but the machines to do that have a higher up front cost.
